A Simple Guide to Refined Shelf Styling

One common issue people have when trying to style their shelves is finding a cohesive look that coordinates with their existing style and decor. It can be difficult and often times, time consuming to choose pieces that work together to create a stylish, balanced and visually appealing shelf. Here are some tips to help you get started:

  1. Start by choosing a colour palette. This will be the foundation of your shelf design. Consider the colours already in the room and try to find items that coordinate.  Stick with one foundational colour and two secondary colours that are complimentary.
  2. Next, decide what type of items you want to display. Books, photos, plants, ornaments, and souvenirs are all popular choices.
  3. Now, you can start arranging your items. Start with larger items at the bottom and layer smaller items on top. Don't forget to add in some decorative accents like candles, figurines, and art.
  4. Finally, step back and edit as needed. Make sure the shelves look balanced and the items don't look too cluttered. Adjust as needed until you are satisfied with the final result.

With a little bit of patience and creativity, you can create a beautiful and unique display for your living room shelves.
